Rather than maintaining and also overdoing things – not as let them end. Polishing while sharpening – cannot protect for long!

Nobody can guard palaces filled with gold and jade. Wealthy and honored, yet haughty self-surrendering one's calamity.

Retreat after your work is done: the Way of Nature.

Besser als erhalten und zugleich übersteigern ... nicht so gut wie es belassen. Zugleich polieren und schärfen vermag nicht lange zu beschützen!

Gold- und Jadegefüllte Paläste kann niemand bewachen. Reich und geehrt, doch hochmütig bedeutet, sich selbst seinem Unglück auszuliefern.

Sich zurückziehen nach vollbrachter Tat: der Weg der Natur.
